Shopping for a car can be a pretty scary experience? (is anyone with me?) It’s a lot of choices and in most cases I am the worst at making choices about commitments. (as in commitments of a certain amount of money for a certain amount of time) Since my brain injury, I have been apprehensive to even consider making any long term promises. With all of the snow that hit Cape May County, I knew I needed to make a choice because the van just was not making the cut. I wasn’t comfortable being on the roads in the BIG van since I started driving again. Now that I am getting comfortable I knew it was time for a change. Although I know that I will miss the space of the van I totally am digging my new car and it’s comfortable size.

I decided to vlog the day. I went with $8,000 and DIDN’T spend one penny more. I have been friends with my car dealer for a while so I was really hoping he could help me find a car that was not toooooooo small and I think if you watch the video (around 4:22) you will see how Scott Novick makes sure I know that even though it isn’t as big as a van it still has plenty of room. (if it gives you any clue-I am 5′8 and he towers over me) It is surely hysterical. What a hoot!!! I am still a little scared about my leather seats getting messy but I love my car.

5 reasons I need to exercise more….could be your reasons too!

1. Get more zzzzzzzzs. A good night’s sleep is a pretty good reason to exercise for me. (I am writing this post at 2:24am-I should have exercised today) Darnet!

2. Stress no more!!! The more you exercise, the better you’ll cope with anxiety, stress and depression. (So for me that means bring on the drama-for real-I am just kidding I don’t need any more theatrics in my life I have in-laws, Right there is my reason to hit the gym)

3. Chocolate and other yum yum food. I figure……if I exercise regularly, I can indulge in my favorite things from the fridge and cabinets right? (no sugar for me today-I resisted my chocolate because I resisted doing exercises-All is fair in…..love of chocolate and exercise…..right?) No exercise. No sweets!

4. More brain cells. Exercise drives more oxygen to feed your brain, making you think quickly and clearly. (If anyone knows me….they should be telling me to jump on the treadmill I need to be able to think better-I suffer from mommybrain-I hear it happens to most of us overworked-underpaid-invisable-hard working- moms. That’s what I have heard anyway *wink *wink)

5. Physical activity sends more blood to all parts of your body, making you respond more quickly to sexual activity……that means more and better sex. (Hope my parents don’t read this post-but seriously doesn’t this reason beat number 3’s reason?).

I am Getting Fit

When asked to write inspiring words for parents to get their kids healthy for GetFitCapeMayCounty.com all I could think of was how I was not fit for this article. Sure, I have fitness experience to a certain degree but being a health driven parent in a pizza, hot dogs and chicken nuggets world is exhausting. I love my boys and want nothing more for them to live happy and healthy, long lasting lives. It’s hard being a mom with a career, a toddler running around, a first grader that needs his homework done and to make everything from scratch, buy organic, keep them active all while keeping me sane is almost impossible(gasp-did I just admit that I am not perfect??)

Yes, it’s true I am not perfect but I have every desire to give my kids a nutritional head start in life. As the GetFitCapeMayCounty.com challenge begins I am going to make the following challenge to myself as a parent.

-Eat Balanced Meals with unprocessed food (as much as possible)

-Keep my kids active (even if this means not taking the closest parking spot and have them walk a couple extra steps “WITH” me)

-Limit soda and juice and encourage water. (arghhh does this mean I need to cut back on my coffee???)

-Live by example! (For me this means I am going to have to step away for work “The Computer” and get active with them…….are you cheering me on yet? I am going to need it.

I am not a perfect mom. I am going to try to be the best parent I can be………Join the Cape May County commitment to health. I am here to encourage you and be encouraged. Help hold me accountable to the challenge……My kids will thank you. (They better anyway-if not a manner challenge might be in order LOL)

I challenge you to take the step beyond Chicken Nuggets and aim to raise healthy dudes and dudettes.

Birthdays – You Can’t Live Without Them

I am turning 52 this week, and I don’t feel excited or sad about it! I was thinking of the many years of partys and gifts from my friends and family. I don’t even know if I can even remember any now. Birthdays were such a big event in my youth. I loved that “special day” of attention from my best friends. I’d wear my “party dress” or coolest outfit, and eat cake and dance to my favorite 45’s. In this picture I am about 14. Most of these girlfriends have moved out of Cape May County. One dear friends passed at age 49! We all had such big futures planned for our lives. I wonder how many really achieved what they wanted to do? God doesn’t promise us tomorrow. We should learn to live each day to its fullest, and celebrate that birthday no matter what the number!

I am a Christian wife, mother and grandmother, who has lived in Cape May County all my life. We all struggle with trials, and some can be really hard. I try to handle the trials in this life with humor, faith and compassion. Maybe, I can help lighten your load with a word of encouragement.
